Evelyn’s Kitchen

I’d stopped by the space last summer… Quick convo w. Ayala, the owner and she sent me off w. one of her famous Toffee Blondies and a Sunshine Cupcake (lemon influenced). The Sunshine Cupcake went to Tara (her birthday cake @ lunch) and the blondie, I ate a little later. Good thing, because I felt like turning around and going right back! First of all, huge. Second, chewy and moist. Third, delicious. I love a motto… Defining Delicious is theirs. Indeed.

Months later, I happened upon the bake shop that was one of their whole sale accounts… Two Toffee Blondies and a Strangely Delicious Bar. Potential for disaster!!! Over time, I started seeing @EvelynsKitchen pop up on my twitter timeline. This time about the to-go dinners… Dinners might include: Orange Butter Broiled Tilapia, Sage Roasted Turkey Breast, Marinated Skirt Steak Heroes, Poached Shrimp Salad, Glazed Asian Salmon, coconut rice, bok choy, garlic green beans, baked macaroni and cheese, smashed reds and on and on. Ringing endorsements from her Twitter followers like @llcoolj and @bevysmith, even a shout out from DJ Envy on Power 105.1′s Breakfast Club. I realized I was slipping a little…

Finally (!!!) my turn. Sage Turkey Breast, baked macaroni and cheese, and Ms. Jackson’s spicy greens. Nothing like i expected… far beyond. My first taste of the turkey was a little bit sweet. Learned that the breast is rubbed w. oranges and sage before being cooked in the sage butter. That’s how it’s so flavorful and still so juicy after cooking… the macaroni and cheese was what I hoped it would be. Cheesy and creamy at the same time. Ms. Jackson’s spicy greens were the best I’ve ever had! Chopped greens, tiny turkey bits throughout, and no juice. A healthy portion of everything, that I ate in 1.5 sittings. Maybe enough for someone else to share?

Heard that Evelyn’s Kitchen will soon serve to- go lunches and dinners more frequently than the current three days a week. Uh oh…

Sage Roasted Turkey Breast.
